Ughelli /Ogor Traders, Protest, Lament Market Neglect

 
TRADERS relocated to the Ughelli-Ogor modern market in Ughelli north local government area of Delta state, had in a protest lamented lack of patronage and awareness campaign by the state and local governments.
Displaying placards with inscriptions such as, ‘We need buyers and sellers, ‘We need Slaughter, ‘We need signpost’ among others accused the local government of non provision of basic amenities and lack of market publicity.
According them, Some of us obeyed the government and moved down to the modern make, we pay transport to and fro on daily basis without any selling and buying.
“While some of us remain, some have gone back to the former market at Otovwodo, because there is no publicity on the market and we cannot continue to waste our transport on daily basis without any buying and selling.
“Those inhabiting in the market are gradually returning because, nothing is happening, despite government assurances to us.
“Probably because we lack security and other social amenities, some traders are not willing to come here for because of the safety of their goods and products.” Miss Akpevwe disclosed.
Effort to speak with the Ughelli North Council Chairman, Hon Godwin Adode was not successful as he was not on sit when the protesters the secretariat as at the time of this report.
